Easter The celebration of Easter begins at the Easter Vigil. We gather in anticipation of our celebration of Jesus’ Resurrection. The Easter Vigil is a special time for Catechumans who have been preparing for baptism, confirmation and sharing in the Eucharist for the first time
Symbols of Easter The color used during the Easter season is white, signifying the joy of Christ's resurrection. The Paschal Candle represents Christ our Light. The five pieces of incense inserted in it represent the wounds of Christ. The Easter Fire is a sign of new hope, a new beginning, because fire is a symbol of purification; this fire will be used to light the paschal candle. The last day of the Easter season is Pentecost Sunday, on which we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit. On this day, red is the liturgical color, representing the fire of the Holy Spirit.
Alleluia The word Alleluia is repeatedly used during the celebration of Easter. Comes from the two words Hallel Yahweh meaning “praise God”. It is not prayed at all during Lent.
The Feast of the Acsension After Jesus rose from the dead on Easter Sunday he appeared to his disciples and forgave them for leaving him when he went to die on Calvary. He greeted them with ”Peace be with you. ” After 40 days on the top of the Mount of Olives Jesus told his apostles to teach others what he taught them and then he ascended into Heaven. We remember that Jesus wants his followers to tell everyone of his love.
