Characteristics • An earthquake forms when tectonic plates • • of earth push together. They continue moving until they break free sending strong forces up to Earth. The tectonic plates get pressured after running into each other. It next sends a powerful force right up to earth. When an earthquake hits there would be lots of shaking and depending on the force an earthquake can cause a wide scale of devastation.
Preparations • Since earthquakes are very dangerous, there • • are a bunch of ways to prepare for one. First follow evacuation orders that law enforcement has sent so listen to the radio. Next make an emergency kit that includes any food and water for you and your pets, a flashlight and, a speaker to listen to the radio. Lastly, stay calm and don’t panic. Tap on a loud object if you are trapped instead of yelling.
1906 San Francisco Earthquake One of the most devastating earthquakes was the 1906 San Francisco earthquake which hit the city very hard. After the earthquake and after shocks the city’s water system was destroyed. This caused the city’s fires unstoppable for three days and two nights. The earthquake also left half the city homeless and caused three thousand deaths. The San Francisco earthquake measured 7. 7 on the Richter scale which destroys weaker structures. The earthquake was a very rough one most earthquakes are not that strong and only get between a one and a two.
