Spreadsheet Content z The INTRODUCTORY page -- Unofficial GPA calculation z EXPECTED GPA page -- NO CHANGES AFTER TERM START y completed at the start of the term. y This mark is based on the probable class average y how well the student has done, relative to the class average, in previous courses. z The PLANNED GPA page -- NO CHANGES AFTER TERM START y completed at the start of the term. y Student to make adjustments to the expected GPA to meet some professional or personal requirement. z The TRACKED GPA page -- CHANGE AFTER EACH QUIZ/EXAM y updated by the student after every in-class quiz. y Predicted marks for the current quizzes and laboratories y Update previous quizzes and laboratories are updated. z The WHATIF page -- A PLANNED GPA YOU CAN CHANGE y generate a new PLAN for future labs and quizzes z The final page -- adjusting anything in this page will probably cause the spreadsheet to fail-- Earned or give inaccurate results. Step 2 -- Expected GPA -- Planning On this page you are asked five questions (GREEN) concerning your performance in previous classes in in-class quizzes, laboratories, midterms, final exams and when the class does new activities. Step 3 -- Planned GPA -- Planning z Adjust the EXPECTED GPA prediction to better reflect what your own expectations, or needs, are for the course. z For example, your previous performance may indicate a B+, but you want to adjust the course components to find out what is necessary to get the A or A- grade you want for personal satisfaction or a job requirement. z REMEMBER y Fast initial learning curve associated with this course so don’t change marks for early components much y 5 % change -- easy y 8% change -- possible y more than 10% -- unlikely unless you change your learning process (habits) 12/17/2021 ENCM 515 -- Earned Mark Analysis -- Planning and Tracking Copyright M. Step 3 -- Planned GPA -- Planning z As with all process planning, have realistic expectations. You will not get an accurate prediction if you give yourself a 100% on each component of the course. y Note that the instructor expects that everybody will do well on each laboratory (mark of A/A-) but does not expect that every student will complete every component of every laboratory -average mark around 80%. y Getting greater than 85% on ENCM 515 quizzes on a regular basis is unlikely.
