Unit 7 prepositions in on under by behind Key Questions; ‘where is the? ’ etc Key response pupil say ‘The cat is in the box’ etc. Prepositions; in, on, under, next to, behind The six word sentence; ‘The… is… in the…’ Activities; Say the preposition. Gather together objects to place. Place a pencil on a chair. Ask; ‘Where is the pencil? ’ miming being puzzled. Point to the pencil, saying ‘The pencil is on the chair!’ miming being pleased finding it. Repeat with other objects and the other prepositions. Ask pupils to repeat each time. Play the ‘Find the cat’ game described on slide 4 Say a sentence: Ask pupils to lay out the cards in front of them. Use the book to say the sentence… ‘The cat is in the box’ etc. Ask pupils to pick up the correct card and repeat… ‘The cat is in the box’ etc. Repeat for all the cards, until pupils have learned the new sentences. How to print sets of pupil flashcards for this book; 1. Go to file 2. Then print 3. Then choose your colour printer 4. Then choose slides, and in the bar, type 6 – 13 for the pages you want to make the cards from. 5. Under print what, choose handouts 6. Then click on 6 per page. 7. Go to number of copies to click on how many sets you want. 8. Click preview to check how the cards fit on the pages. 9. This is the card for the ‘Find the cat game’. Ask the pupils to cover their eyes while you hide the cat. (under a book, in a box, etc. ) Ask pupils to open their eyes and make a guess. They have to say the sentence. ‘The cat is under the book’, etc. The pupil who guesses right gets a turn at hiding the cat. You may wish to give each pupil a turn, instead.
