For this lesson, you will need: ● Drawings of characters * ● Sound effects + ● Fairy lights / a torch ● A white sheet ● A dark blanket ● Photos / symbols of facial expressions < * Some have been provided on slides in this resource. + A list can be found on slide 3 < Some have been provided on slides 2
Activity 1: Exploring character sounds For this activity, you will need: ● Pictures of characters ● 3 Sound effects - ones that you can attribute to the different characters Examples: Mean Scrooge - Grumbling man Jacob Marley - Rattling chains Ghost of Christmas Past -Peaceful music Ghost of Christmas Present - Party celebration Ghost of Christmas Future - Wind sound Scared Scrooge - Scared/Fearful man Happy Scrooge - Laughing man
Activity 1: Exploring character sounds What to do in this activity: ● Show the picture relating to a character from A Christmas Carol (some have been provided on the following slides) 4 ● Play the sound effect associated with that character ● Does your child notice the sound being played? ● How do they respond? ● Listen to the sound again - noting their response ● Repeat this for each character

Activity 2: Tracking ghosts For this activity, you will need: ● Fairy lights / a torch ● Sheer white material such as a sheet ● Heavy dark material such as a blanket 12
Activity 2: Tracking ghosts What to do in this activity: ● Introduce each ghost ● Note your child’s response ● Using one ghost at a time move them to encourage visual tracking, noting your child's response ● Repeat with the second contrasting ghost 13
Activity 3: Exploring facial expressions For this activity, you will need: ● Your own face or photos / symbols of different facial expressions ● Sound effects or your own voice to indicate mean, scared and happy 14
Activity 3: Exploring facial expressions What to do in this activity: ● Explore the different facial expressions , you can use those on the slides or pull your own! ● Use the sound effects to accentuate the facial expression 15

Make it easier Make it harder More ideas Activity 1 - Concentrate on only 3 sounds that you could also link with activity 3 to encourage familiarity. Activity 1 - Introduce symbols - Get your child to role play each character using appropriate costumes and exploring all the different sensory aspects. 25 Activities 1 & 3 - See if your child is able to indicate the correct symbol (from a choice of 2) when exploring an emotion photo or sound. Introduce through heavy modelling.
