Briefly Describe the Project • To design, oversee the manufacturing of and install local trail markers, similar to museum type, for a new hiking trail that is being installed by Auer Farm, a 4 -H community farm located in Bloomfield, CT. This project will involve signs and a walking trail map to help people learn about Auer Farm and the surrounding topography.
How my project will be helpful to the beneficiary and why it’s needed • This project will be helpful because it will make more people come to Auer Farm. This project is needed because they have a hill that they want to install a walking trail on to get people to walk to the top of the hill and experience the wonderful view.

Overview • Will install four signs with three posts, one with a sign and pamphlet holder that will include a map of the trail, one post with one sign and one post with two signs. 1. 2. 3. 4. Welcome sign and walking map, apple orchard. Describe ecosystem of hayfield, floral and fauna, plants and critters that live and depend upon it. Crest of the hill front sign, Talcott Mountain, Heublien Tower and other items. Crest of the hill back sign history of farm and what famous Hartford family had a summer home there and dedicated part of their property to create Auer Farm? (To find out who this person/Family is, you will need to help me with the project or wait until it is done and walk the trail yourself).

When will my project be completed and beginning date? • 3 months. I will begin working on this project in the spring. • As soon as it is approved by the committee, I will start the financing process.
Tools • The tools I need are a shovel, an auger, a hammer, post hole digger, ratchet set, metal pole for removing rocks, spades, and work gloves. • Most, if not all of these tools will be available through Auer Farm or through those helping.
Project Phases 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. Approval of presentation by committee. Send out letter to Troop Scouts/Scout Parents and my relatives requesting contributions. When contributions match estimated project cost, schedule initial visit with Scouts and adults at Auer Farm. Tour preliminary trail with Scouts who volunteer to assist. Ask a group of two to three Scouts to research the sign location and provide draft wording for the sign. Acquire preliminary sign wording from each Scout prior to a Scout meeting. Develop map pamphlet with or without other Scouts assistance. Meet with Auer Farm representative to review sign wording and develop final statements and map pamphlet. Bring final wording to sign manufacturer. When signs are completed, purchase poles, pamphlet holders, nuts and bolts. Schedule a time with Auer Farm to install poles, construct signs, and pamphlet holder. Send e-mail to Troop to ask assistance with constructing and installing signs at Auer Farm. Construct and install signs.
