Exercise SAFEGAURDING-Bullying/Cyber bullying 1 st lesson of first term • Give all learners each a plain piece of paper. • Ask them to screw it up and make it dirty but not to rip it! • Let them wonder what they are doing- debate why- encourage open discussion • Then instruct them to open and try and smooth out their piece of paper, encourage them to look at how deep the creases are and how dirty the paper has got if they stood on it or run it along the ground • Then relate this to bullying, face to face or online bullying • Explain: • The creases may be the deep scars you can leave on the victim’s emotions if they are bullied • The dirt may not wash away, such as the scars and damage done by any physical or emotional bullying. • The scars can remain and affect the victims’ mental health for the rest of their life’s. • It could also make them depressed, suicidal, make them not want to go to school, college or go to work because they are scared of the bully. • Get learners to explore this as a group and how they can stay safe from bullying, harassment or abuse whilst online or in every day life.
