TOP TIPS FOR A SHORT STORY Take Note: Remember that you are writing a short story, and not an epic series of novels! • Most short stories take place in ONE setting or over the space of just a few hours. • Think of it as describing just one exciting scene. • Whether you are doing N 4 or N 5 this year, you will need an extended piece of writing. This should aim for a story that is long enough and detailed enough for 750 words, but doesn't go above 1000 words. • It's definitely easier to add more to a story than to have to cut away some of your hard work – so keep your plan simple!
