Pick a dynamic character and a static character. Dynamic Character: A character that undergoes change and growth throughout the story. Static Character: A character that doesn’t undergo any change or growth throughout the story. 1. Create a Power. Give me about 5 -7 sentences explaining how they are a dynamic character. -Static character slide. Include the name of your static character. Throw a picture in there too. Give me about 5 -7 sentences explaining how they are a static character. 4. You will present this to the class next week. Your presentation should be about 2 minutes.

Story Summary- The Hobbit centers around Bilbo Baggins, a quaint, respectable Hobbit that is perfectly content with staying at home, reading books, and eating all day. One day, a wizard offers him a chance to join a company of dwarves on an adventure to reclaim their family’s treasure from a dragon. He initially declines the offer, but an adventurous spark causes him to join the wizard at the last minute. The journey takes Bilbo across the world and changes his life forever. By the time Bilbo returns, he is not the same Hobbit whatsoever.

Dynamic Character Bilbo Baggins At the beginning of the story, Bilbo is a homebody who never leaves The Shire. He spends most of his time reading, preparing food, and mingling with his neighbors. When Gandalf offers him a chance to go on an adventure, he scoffs at the idea and declines. However, he becomes inspired by his ancestors’ journeys and the conquests of his favorite book characters. Finally, Bilbo agrees to go and soons finds himself in extraordinary situations like fighting spiders, barrelling down a raging river, playing riddles with the menacing Gollum, getting involved in a battle, and coming face to face with a deadly dragon. By the time Bilbo makes it home, he has become courageous and adventurous.

Static Character Smaug is a deadly, fire-breathing dragon that sits upon a hoard of gold in the mountain of Erebor. He is greedy, cunning, and destroys anyone who attempts to take his gold. When Bilbo and the company of dwarves arrive to the mountain, he awakens to protect his treasure. He meets his demise as a result of Bilbo and the dwarves trying to reclaim their gold. From the time he is introduced in the story to his bitter end, Smaug is solely focused on protecting his treasure. Throughout the story, his motives and characteristics never change.
