During or within? What’s the difference?
During… This is a preposition that means all through a period of time I was in Hong Kong during 2004. Jan 2004 Did I leave in July? Dec 2004 Yes or No? I was in Hong Kong all the time for 12 months.
During… During also shows some time between the start and the end of a period of time… Did I wake up at 6: 00 am? I woke up three times during the night. 1: 30 am 3: 15 am Did I wake up at 3: 15 am? 11: 30 pm Did I wake up at 1: 30 am? 5: 30 am 7: 30 am Yes or No? Within… This preposition means inside and not beyond (more than) an area or a period of time… NB: within can talk about inside and not beyond an area (place) but during cannot… I’m within the circle
