Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award and Certificate of Achievement YEAR 10 2020/2021
WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE • A Bronze Dof. E programme has 4 sections • • Volunteering Physical Skills Expedition You need to do 6 months of either Volunteering, Physical or Skills and 3 months on each of the other two. It is up to you which one you do for longer.
EXPEDITION SECTION Due to current Covid restrictions we will not be running an expedition this year however students will be able to complete this section at a later date either at Winchmore School or directly with The Do. E to get the full Bronze Award. Instead this year you can qualify for a Certificate of Achievement.
Certificate of Achievement • The Dof. E acknowledge that many schools cannot do the expedition part of the Bronze Award at the moment so they are issuing a Certificate of Achievement for students who complete the other 3 sections. • This Award is recognised by employers and educational institutions and would be a great addition for any application form, UCAS Form or C. V’.
VOLUNTEERING Volunteering is about making a difference to other people's lives. • Some ideas conservation work youth work – helping at clubs/mentoring fundraising supporting a charity caring for animals There's an endless list of the types of projects you can get involved in. SKILLS • For your skills activity you need to choose an activity that will allow you to prove you have broadened your understanding and increased your expertise in your chosen skill. • Some examples: • • • Learn a language Develop an arts and crafts skill Try dance or theatre Learn a musical instrument Develop a sporting skill Also look at this link for ideas to do at home https: //www. dofe. org/dofewithadifference/activities

Do’s and Don'ts • Do choose something you will enjoy in each section. • You can use clubs/events in school once they start running again but this cannot be in lesson time and must be for at least an hour a week. • You can use activities you are already doing outside of school i. e. Scouts/Dance Classes/Sport activities. • Do not choose something where the person confirming you have attended (the Assessor) is a family member.
What else must I do? • You must find a suitable Assessor. That is someone who will sign your register and then fill in an Assessor’s Report at the end of the timescale to confirm that you have worked towards your goals. • Set yourself goals so that you can show you progressed at the end. • Attend for a minimum of an hour a week • Get a register signed each week • Complete one section for 6 months and two sections for 3 months each.
HOW TO SIGN UP • Application Forms and planning documents have been emailed home to parents and carers. • Complete the application and planning forms and return to Mrs Winter at careers@winchmore. enfield. sch. uk by the 6 th November 2020 • Numbers are limited so ‘first come first served’! • Registration fee will be payable via Parentpay upon enrolment which will be the first week after half term
