Dual Enrollment Statistics 4 Simple Steps!
There Are 4 Steps to Enroll Apply to the Early College Program Meet the prerequisites Register for the class Pay for the class
Step 1 - Applying If you applied to the ECP last year for another dual enrollment class, you’ve already done this. Otherwise, go to apply. isu. edu to apply. ◦ Be sure to select the application type “Early College Program”. ◦ The registration is free for the ECP, but if you do see mention of a $50 charge, ignore that, as it applies to regular applications.
Step 1 - Applying Then you have to get the High School Verification form filled out. ◦ You, your parents, and your school councilor need to sign it. Then, the form needs to find its way to the ECP office. It can be mailed or faxed. You might hear a vicious rumor that it is to be given to me and I turn it in for you. This is inaccurate. ◦ If you genuinely cannot get the letter to them for some actual reason, I could be convinced to help, but chances are, you are able to just do it yourself.
Step 1 - Applying Once the online registration is completed and the form is submitted, you are mailed your logins for Bengal. Web. This usually takes a few days (2 -3).
Step 2 - Qualifying Not just anyone can dually enroll in stats through ISU. You are required to have: ◦ An SAT math score of 560 or higher. This is a change from last year. ◦ An ACT math subscore of 23 or higher. ◦ A 61 or higher on the Compass Test for Algebra. I have put together a list for most of you as to what category you fall into.
Step 2 - Qualifying If your ACT/SAT score was high enough and you listed ISU as one of the schools to send it to when you took the test, they already have the score. If your ACT/SAT score was high enough but you did not list ISU, you could still qualify, but you may have to pay to have the score sent to ISU. In previous years, I have been told that an official transcript showing the score was good enough, but I cannot vouch that this will work this year. ◦ Hurray for bureaucracy!
Step 2 - Qualifying If you need to take the compass test, there a few things you should know about it. First, you have to take it during school hours. As in it is only offered between 8 am and 3 pm on Monday through Friday. It takes long enough you simply cannot get it done during a lunch, so this will pretty much mean skipping a class. Since my class is the one requiring you to test, I think it is fair for me to try and accommodate you skipping my class.
Step 2 - Qualifying The compass test costs $12 each time you take it. The ECP will be visiting the school on the week of my birthday (so…next week) and if you ask them specifically for one, they will be able to give you a waiver which covers the cost of taking it one time. You can take the compass test only once a day. There is a sign in the testing lab which states that you can only take the compass test 3 times per trimester, but I have personally known students applying for ECP which took it more than 3 times each year I have taught. So you can take it as many times as you need, as long as you are willing to keep missing school and willing to pay $12.
Step 2 - Qualifying As you do well on the test, it advances you to increasingly more challenging parts of the test, until eventually you get to math you simply should not know. Realistically if you start seeing relatively advanced trigonometry, you are golden (unless you are going for chemistry or calculus as well, in which case they have higher requirements which might include a certain score on the trig test).
Step 2 - Qualifying You need a 61 on the Algebra (as opposed to the College Algebra). This is, as far as I can tell, approximately equal to a B or B- in Algebra II, but some of you have used your summer to slip below that. If you fail the first time, consider retaking it. I even have a book you can look at in order to help you. I have had students not pass until their sixth try before…but I have had students with stronger math backgrounds fail twice and give up.
Step 2 - Qualifying If you took the compass test before you applied to the ECP, they may need to get the compass score associated with your bengalweb ID. ◦ This can have a 24 -48 hour turnover time. Punchline: The last minute is too late to get on this stuff. ◦ Start today!
Step 3 - Registering Once you meet the pre-requisites, you will need to log in (with the logins that were mailed to you) and register for my Math 1153 class. You need to register for the hour you are in this trimester. Do not register for the wrong hour, please.
Step 3 - Registering You have to register by September 30 th. Even though registering only takes 2 -3 minutes, the journey to be able to register is much more time consuming. If you do not unregister (drop) the class by then, you could be stuck with paying the fee even if you drop the class. Even though the advanced opportunities money covers the class if you take it, I believe they bill you for what they paid if you drop.
Step 4 – Paying It is $195 for dual enrollment tuition. This is less than the cost of 1 credit at normal price. Unless you totally derp up the advanced opportunities procedure, though, it is totally free! The State of Idaho has calculated, through arcane sorcery, that $4125 is what you should be entitled to.
Step 4 – Paying The advanced opportunities procedure is relatively straightforward, but if you have questions, please ask me outside of class time and I will help. If you elect not to use this free money but pay for it out of pocket, there are some things you need to know. After the drop date is over, you are billed for the class if you registered, and later even if you withdraw, ISU will still expect its money. If you do not pay on time (and did not utilize the advanced opportunities money) then you are responsible for a $50 late fee and the $195, so please take the free money for free process seriously.
Further Information If you need to know more about this process, ask me. Also, you can visit the ECP website. ◦ www. isu. edu/ecp You can even call the ECP office. ◦ The staff is crazy friendly and super helpful. ◦ 282 -6067 ◦ ISU’s administration is not known for being easy to deal or for getting things done…but the ECP is a definite exception.
Further Information But Saanfooord… Me me me me. Translation: That is just too hard and too much work. Solution: Grow up!
