run 2010/2011 - Il rivelatore e’ stabile e affidabile; tuttavia il suo running richiede un expertise notevole; Shifts: L’ esperienza CRAFT (Run cosmici 2009) e soprattutto dei due primi mesi di run (Aprile-Maggio) ha permesso di mettere a punto una strategia che prevede 2 on-call DT shifter (+ 1 on-call expert che copre le diverse competenze detector/DAQ/trigger) Expertise/ “key persons”: - propagazione dell’ expertise necessario per le persone on-call ben avviato; - buon livello della documentazione esistente - training sessions organizzate ~mensilmente - ampliamento della platea di “experts” (transizione “on-call” shifters-> “on-call experts” ) 22/7/2009 U. DT upgrade Problema: come garantire il run del detector fino al 2030 (? ), in conformita’ coi piani CERN per LHC/SLHC n Punti critici: u Obsolescenza dell’elettronica - spares di parti prototipate nel 1995 indisponibili nel 2020… “consolidation program” avviato (next slides) u Disponibilita’ dei progettisti originari su tempi lunghi - per modifiche senza stravolgimenti di un sistema complesso

DT “consolidation” Trigger Board replacement in q view: MOTIVATION - BTIM mortality was high during production tests (25% spares to 3% spares). - TRB failure rate was high (1%) during commissioning phase (thermal stress? ). The rate seems to have lowered down and it needs to be totally understood during steady operation. PROPOSAL: *BTI was produced in now obsolete ATMEL 0. 5 um technology. *We are investigating the migration to FPGA (optimizes production timescale and leaves space for possible modifications), which can also be moved to an ASIC production later if desired. *The present plan is to replace THETA TRB with the newly produced FPGA-based ones and use the removed boards as source of spare BTIMs to be used to repair failing PHI TRBs. *The actual implementation program will depend on the shutdown plans but we estimate that all boards of one MBX can be replaced in 6 months. *Present proposal is to replace all boards in one full station (i. e. DT “consolidation” (II) THETA TRB REPLACEMENT Present situation: • ACTEL Pro. Asic 3 identified as best device in terms of radiation tolerance • Working prototypes of BTI algorithm inside the device have been qualified through test vectors • Studies of number of BTIs/device are on going. • At present 2 BTIs/ACTEL is feasible in terms of timing => 16 devices/TRB • 3 BTIs/ACTEL done but timing not yet correct (76 MHz vs 80 MHz) • A prototype board is being developed to understand possible problems. • Some concerns about higher power consumption under study Richieste: ulteriori sviluppi prototipo scheda trigger 20 keuro consumo 2 keuro licenze sw 22/7/2009 U.
