Teen Pregnancy
v Did you know that nearly 3 in 10 teen girls in the US will get pregnant at least once before age 20? That's more than 700, 000 teen pregnancies each year. v A 2004 study by Yale and Columbia Universities found that 88% of those who pledge abstinence have premarital sex anyway.
Drug Use and Abuse
v. Once addiction develops, these brain changes interfere with an individual’s ability to make voluntary decisions, leading to compulsive drug craving, seeking and use. v 1 in 15 people who take non medical prescription pain relievers will try heroin within 10 years.
Social Media
v 24% of people have had private or embarrassing info made public without their permission. v 55% of teens have given out personal info to someone they don’t know, including photos and physical descriptions. v 29% of teens have posted mean info, embarrassing photos or spread rumors about somebody.
Sexual Transmitted Disease
v One out of four teens in the united states becomes infected with an STD each year by the age of 25, half of all sexually active young adults will get an STD about 9. 5 million adolescents and young adults (ages 15– 24) are diagnosed with sexually transmitted diseases each year. An estimated four in 10 sexually active adolescent females between the ages of 14 and 19 have an STD. v Roughly 75 percent of all reported gonorrhea is found in people age 15 to 29, with the highest infection rates found in teen girls age 15 to 19 and 20 to 24 -year-old men.
Health and Wellness
v People with less than a high school degree have the highest obesity rate at (32. 9%) , whereas High school graduates at (29. 5%) have about the same obesity rates as college drop-outs (29. 1%). College graduates were known for having the lowest obesity rate in 2009 at 20. 8%. v Nearly half of Americas youth ages 12 -21 are not vigorously active on a regular basis. Inactivity is more common among females at (14%) than males with (7%). About 14 percent of young people report no recent physical activity.
