Navy Policy on Alcohol �Minimum age to consume alcohol is 21. In a host country the minimum age to consume alcohol may be younger, but Military members shall conform to the legal age set by the United States.
How Drugs and Alcohol Affect Your Ability to Commission �The Navy policy on drugs is Zero Tolerance. If you are caught taking illegal drugs you will be let go from the Navy �If you are found responsible for an alcohol incident you will have a PRB and most likely be let go from the Navy
Drug Testing �You will be drug tested during your entire lifetime in the Navy including your time spent in ROTC �These tests are random and will find if you have illegally taken drugs �Prescription drugs are tested
Standing Orders �It is part of your unit’s standing orders that you will not consume alcohol under the age of 21 or do drugs �You will be punished to the full extent if you are guilty of either action for violating a direct order �Double Jeopardy does not apply �You will be charged by the school, the military and civil authority
Dealing with Peer Pressure �College towns are infamous for drinking and partying �You will be held to a higher standard and will be expected to completely follow the rules �Just say “No” �Do not expect sympathy if you are caught
Dealing with Long Term Abuse of Alcohol � Alcohol dependence and alcohol abuse are recognized as treatable conditions � Referral for treatment, when there is no misconduct involved, regardless of whether the referral was initiated by the member or commanding officer, should not be viewed as detrimental when recommending member for promotion, command screen, or special assignment � The Navy offers different programs depending on location to deal with these
Navy Policy on Drugs �The Navy drug Policy is ZERO tolerance. Navy members determined to be using, possessing, promoting, manufacturing, or distributing drugs shall be disciplined as appropriate and processed as required �Mandatory processing, likely resulting in immediate separation
