License requirements for an Alabama Driver’s license n Every Alabama resident who operates any motor vehicle must have a driver license. n n A farm tractor is an exception. A holder of an out of state license which has not been expired for over one year does not have to pass a driver examination. Must present license [expired] n Social security card n Birth certificate n
Who cannot be licensed n n Persons under 16 years of age. Any person whose driving rights or privilege is suspended or revoked in any state Any person afflicted with or suffering from a physical or mental impairment which, in the opinion of the Director of Public Safety or examining officer will prevent such person from exercising reasonable and ordinary control over a motor vehicle Any person who is a habitual drunk or addicted to the use of narcotic drugs.

License Fees n n Class D operator license - $23. 00 Learner’s License-$23. 00 Motorcycle License-$23. 00 License fees shown above are subject to change and will be slightly higher in counties where local legislation permits a higher fee
Renewing your License n n n Your Driver License expires four years after it is issued and the expiration date is shown on the license. The license may be renewed any time within 60 days prior to expiration at your probate judge or license commissioner’s office Alabama law provides a grace period of 60 days after the expiration date of a license and it shall be valid during that time.
n n You must submit the required fee of $23. 00 for a renewal license or $18. 00 for a duplicate license. You will receive your license by mail.

Driving as a Right n n Implied consent- If you have a driver’s license you must adhere to a substance or alcohol test of breath, blood, or urine. This law was created to protect drivers from the people who do not respect the laws of the road.
