Develop Data Standard / Data Format Goal: 1. Have 1 data format for laboratory

Develop Data Standard / Data Format Goal: 1. Have 1 data format for laboratory Drinking Water submissions that can be used as a National Standard 2. Although focus is initially on Drinking Water, National standard will be first step in unifying laboratory data format for other environmental data flows (air, wastewater, etc. ) 3. This approach has backing of both States and EPA 9

Develop Data Standard / Data Format Process: 1. Review all DW forms from 5

Develop Data Standard / Data Format Process: 1. Review all DW forms from 5 states used for electronic submittal of DW data, compile common data element inventory, group into logical data blocks –COMPLETED 2. Compare this list with Laboratory Data Standard and modify if necessary. – IN PROCESS, WAITING FOR COMPLETION OF LAB DATA STANDARD (OCTOBER) 3. Compare and reconcile list with SDWIS Fields – COMPLETED 4. Create a “Draft Data Element Requirements” document. 5. Convene group of interested States and EPA to review “Draft Data Element Requirements” and merge with companion e-DWR effort – Ongoing 10

Develop Data Standard / Data Format Process Continued: 6. Send our “Data Element Requirements”

Develop Data Standard / Data Format Process Continued: 6. Send our “Data Element Requirements” to Advisory Committee for comment. Revise to create “Final Data Element Requirements”. – 9/12/03 7. Specific Questions on the Data Elements Requirements • Is the list of elements comprehensive? • Is the definition of the data element clear? • Is there any data that currently cannot be generated? Notes: * Many fields will be optional – will depend on program and state * Please focus primarily on the laboratory section of the document 13
