Current State / Problem to Solve • Too many of us just merely show up to work, clock in and out and move on. Employees are disengaged, suffer from low energy, poor productivity and turnover is high. Onboarding and training new hires is expensive and takes time. • How do you inspire employees? How do we become encouragers instead of managers? Do you dare to dream? How do you retain good team members?
Is more money the only option? No. • According to EBN (Employee Benefit News), in exit interviews the top reasons employees gave for leaving: • Career development (22%), Work-life balance (12%), Managers’ behavior (11%), compensation and benefits (9%) and well-being (9%) • Kids inspire everything we do – let’s dream like kids do! • We have to connect the job we do today with our personal dreams for tomorrow.
Proposed Solution – What’s your dream? • Partnering with The Children’s Mercy Berry Institute – we develop a dream program. This program has a staff member that is a dream facilitator. This person is part life coach and part financial advisor. They can help you break down BIG dreams to small and manageable steps. • An advisory board could help determine winners. It could be based off of years of service or other criteria. We can award employees with financial grant, PTO or other items to help them along on their journey. • We can highlight employees who have achieved their dreams on The Scope. Seeing coworkers meet their goals is exciting and energizing!

Who will benefit from dreaming? • Every single eligible employee! We can help employees to achieve their dreams. This will create and unprecedented level of enthusiasm, creativity, loyalty and excitement. Employees will have a renewed sense of purpose. CMH will show their commitment to each employee as an individual. We care about your future. • Employees rarely leave managers that are actively encouraging them to pursue their dreams. We will build confidence and increase self-esteem encouraging even greater effort at work.
Example #1 • Eric has a dream to travel to Ireland with his brother and research their genealogy. He does not yet know what region to plan to stay, how much airfare or lodging will be or how to find relatives in the country. He meets with a dream facilitator who helps him focus on specific steps to plan his trip. Eric is awarded airfare for his journey.
Examples #2 • Denise has a dream to become a photographer who specializes in infant and toddler portraits. She does not have a professional camera yet. She has not taken a photography course yet. Denise meets with the dream facilitator who assists her to set measurable goals and check-ups along the way. Denise is awarded PTO to attend the photography course and a new camera.
What’s Next? • How can The Berry Institute at CMH afford to do this? • 42 million US workers decided there was something better elsewhere. • More than 27 out of every 100 US employees quit in 2019. • We cannot afford to lose any more good workers. • Work Institute estimates turnover to cost approximately $15, 000 per employee departure (this includes termination, replacement, vacancy and productivity costs). • We commit to developing PEOPLE not employees.
