SYLLABUS UNIT - V MOVING LOADS & INFLUENCE LINES Introduction maximum SF and BM at a given section and absolute maximum S. F and B. M due to single concentrated load U. D. load longer than the span, U. D load shorter than the span, two point loads with fixed distance between them and several point loads – Equivalent uniformly distributes load – Focal length. Definition of influence lines for SF, influence lines for BMs-loads position for maximum SF at a section – load position for maximum BM at a section – Point loads, UDL longer than the span , UDL shorter than the span- Influence lines forces in members of Pratt and Warren trusses.
INFLUENCE LINE DIAGRAMS A curve or graph that represents a function like a reaction at a support, the shear force at a section, the bending moment at a section of a structure for various positions of unit load on the span of the structure is called Influence Line diagram (ILD) for the function represented. ILDs can be drawn for various functions like i. Support Reaction (Va or Vb) ii. Shear Force at a section C iii. Bending Moment at a section C iv. Horizontal thrust (H) of an arch v. Internal forces in members of a truss ILDs can be drawn for the following i. Simply supported beams ii. Cantilever beams iii. Over hang beams iv. Continuous beams v. Trusses etc.
Types of Loads are classified into 4 types. i. Dead Loads i. Self weight of the beam ii. Weight of the slab iii. Finishing Loads ii. Live Loads i. Weight of a person ii. Furniture etc. iii. Moving Loads or Rolling Loads i. Movement of Vehicles iv. Stress resultants i. Reactions of the support ii. Shear iii. Bending iv. Torsion
