Diplura Similar to silverfish and bristeltails. Having two caudal filaments. The diplurans body are not covered with scales and pale in colour. Body size less than 7 mm but some species may reach up to 50 -60 mm. Head and mouth parts- Entognathus condiotion; Mandibulate and withdrawn into head. Eyes: compound eyes and ocelli absent. Tarsi : 1 -segmented Antenna: Long many segmented.
Thorax: Prothorax reduced. Abdominal segments: 10; there are seven pairs of spiracles but absent in the family Campodidae. Abdominal appendages or styli: Present on 1 -7 segments of abdomen. Or 2 -7 segments of abdomen. Habitat: Damp places in the soil, under bark, stones etc. Divided into 05 families: Cerci 1 -segmented and forceps like Cerci many segmented and without forceps like • Japygidae • Campodeidae • Parajapygidae • Procampodeidae • Anajapygidae

Japygidae: Cerci 1 -segmented and forceps like; 4 th 6 th antennal segments with trichobothria; labial palpi present. [eg. Heterojapyx sp. It is Australian species, its length reaches upto 50 mm, Holojapyx diversiungis]. Parajapygidae: Cerci 1 -segmented and forceps like; 4 th antennal segments without trichobothria; labial palpi lacking. [eg. Parajapyx sp].
Campodeidae: Cerci more than 08 segmented and not forceps like; cerci as long as antennae. [Campodea folsomi, about 34 species from North America]. Procampodeidae: Cerci 08 segmented and not forceps like and shorter than antenna; antennal trichobothria begenning on third segment. Styli present on 2 -7 abdominal segment[eg. Procampodea macswaini]. Anajapygidae: Cerci 08 segmented and not forceps like and shorter than antennae; antennal trichobothria begenning on fifth segment. Styli present on 1 -7 abdominal segment [eg. Anajapyx hermosa, Anajapyx vesiculosus about 34 species from North America].
