Comment of pulse in: 1. Heart rate 2. Rhythm (regular or irregular). 3. Volume (small in ↓COP / vascular spasm or large in fever /exertion) 4. Elasticity of arterial wall 5. Equal in both sides in volume 6. Abnormal pulse pressure Dr: Rehab Hemdan
1 -Rate • Normal count : 60 -90 beats /minute more than 90 ……. . tachycardia as in (exercise, fever, pain) less than 60 ………. . . bradycardia as in (sleep , rest , depression heart block )
2 -Rhythm • Regular : normal sinus rhythm irregular : regular irregularity in respiratory sinus arrhythmia. Irregular irregularity : atrial fibrillation
3 - volume • Normal volume : average volume abnormal volume : large volume : water hammer pulse small volume : haemorrhage , aortic stenosis
4 - Equality on both sides • Normally equal in both size in volume. Not equal in compression on the artery on the weak side : tumor , thrombosis , cervical rib.
5 - condition of arterial wall • Normally : artery is elastic not felt. In atherosclerosis : felt as cord like structure
6 - Abnormal special characters • Normally with no special characters
Comment on pulse • Example: 70 beats per minute regular average volume equal on both sides normal condition of arterial wall with no special characters
