DORIS DUKE FOUNDATION FOR ISLAMIC ART BUILDING BRIDGES GRANTS v PROGRAM OVERVIEW Projects or programs aim to offer immersive and/or interactive experiences that are engaging, informative and tailored to identified needs and interests of specific target audiences.

DORIS DUKE FOUNDATION FOR ISLAMIC ART BUILDING BRIDGES GRANTS v § § § PROGRAM OVERVIEW: FRAMEWORK About $1. 5 million will be awarded for projects that commence in March 2015 Grants amounts will range between $25, 000 - $300, 000 Project may take place over a period of 1 – 3 years Grant funding will support up to 75% of total project budget Total grant requested may not exceed 25% of the organization’s annual expenses Nonprofit organizations with operating expense budgets greater than $250, 000 are eligible with $50, 000 allocated for arts and/or media arts programming § Organizations that received a grant in the 2013 funding cycle may apply again in 2014; however, combined grants cannot exceed more than $300, 000, if selected in this 2 nd round

Funding opportunities for single artists in the fields of contemporary dance, jazz, theater and multi-disciplinary performing arts are available through the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation’s Arts Program. DORIS DUKE FOUNDATION FOR ISLAMIC ART BUILDING BRIDGES GRANTS v PROJECT CONCEPT: PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT As you move forward in your thinking about a project, keep in mind that it may include but is not limited to: § Development of a new project based on past experience of successful international artistic programming § Expansion of an existing project that will be a larger scale or an enhancement to the current version of the project

Will it: § Facilitate attitudinal change and advance critical thinking through the program? § Expand target population’s experience of a people and world that has been inaccessible except through news headlines? § Provide opportunities to discover rich, new art forms and through that interactions and connection with Muslim artists?

Is there a clearly defined target audience and statement of desired outcomes for your chosen subjects - the broader American population and the minority population including American Muslims - for your project? What are you hoping to accomplish? How will you know what impact will look like and if you succeed? How will you select artists to serve as mediums for engagement and interaction? What kind of format would work best for your subjects? What kind setting/situation will they experience the program in and how can it be enhanced for maximum benefit? Have the best technologies been identified and engaged to communicate widely?

In what way do they strengthen the project or resources? Are they complementary and beneficial?

What evidence/signs of progress will be provided that will indicate the project’s effectiveness? What form will they take – anecdotal stories, quantitative measurements? Others? § How will data be collected? § How will it measure change comprehensively– attitudes before experiencing a program and/or after? § Can evaluation be designed so that it is built into programs?
