WHAT IS BULLYING ? Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. Both kids who are bullied and who bully others may have serious, lasting problems.
TYPES OF BULLYING There are four types of bullying • Verbal • Social • Physical • Cyber • All types of bullying is wrong and is a serious crime.
VERBAL BULLYING • What is verbal bullying ? Verbal bullying is when someone who is a bully, uses insulting or demeaning language to mock, embarrass or insult another person. • How we can solve it ? Remain calm Tell the person that what they said hurt you Look confident
SOCIAL BULLYING What is social bullying ? Social bullying, sometimes referred to as covert bullying, is often harder to recognize and can be carried out behind the bullied person’s back. It is designed to harm someone’s social reputation and / or cause humiliation. Social bullying can include: lying and spreading rumors negative facial or physical gestures, menacing or contemptuous looks playing nasty jokes to embarrass and humiliate mimicking unkindly encouraging others to social exclude someone damaging someone’s social reputation or social acceptance.
PHYSICAL BULLYING What is physical bullying ? • Physical bullying includes hitting or otherwise hurting someone, shoving or intimidating another person, or damaging or stealing their belongings. How can we solve it • talk to an adult. • stay calm and walk away. • avoid areas where the bullying is likely to happen.
CYBER BULLYING What is cyber bullying ? Cyberbullying (online bullying) is the electronic posting of mean-spirited messages about a person, often done anonymously • Examples of the communication tools: • Social media sites, text messages, emails instant messages, chat rooms, websites , online gaming sites To avoid Cyber bullying ? Don't respond or retaliate Reach out for help – especially if the behavior's really getting to you Save the evidence
WHY PEOPLE ARE BULLIED OR BECOME BULLIES ? The main cause is that they have been bullied themselves. In which case, a defense mechanism, known as “identification to the aggressor” can appear. The more the situation appears at a younger age, the more chances there are that the form of response to aggression develops into a permanent personality trait.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE VICTIM WHEN YOU BULLY THEM ? Kids who are bullied can experience negative physical, school, and mental health issues. Kids who are bullied are more likely to experience: Depression and anxiety, increased feelings of sadness and loneliness, changes in sleep and eating patterns, and loss of interest in activities they used to enjoy. These issues may persist into adulthood. Health complaints Decreased academic achievement—GPA and standardized test scores—and school participation. They are more likely to miss, skip, or drop out of school.
