#1. UC Entry Level Writing Generally, transfer students complete this via their admissions writing/English requirement of 2 writing courses. Satisfaction of this requirement will be notated on your transcript under “University Requirements” If your transcript does not have this notation, please make an appointment to see an academic counselor after Fall quarter grades have been posted on your transcript.

#2. American History and Institutions • One year of U. S. History, or one semester of U. S. History and one semester of U. S. Government in high school with a “C” or better; or • A score of 3, 4, or 5 in AP U. S. History; or • A score of 550 or higher in the SAT II American History exam; or • One year of college-level U. S. History, or one course in U. S. History and one in U. S. Government with a “C” or better • NOTE: IGETC does not automatically satisfy this requirement.

IGETC • If you have completed the IGETC requirements and have been certified by your community college, you will only complete the following GE course at UCI: – Upper-division writing • Partial IGETC is also accepted. Your community college must send us the certification sheet. • You must order this from your school. This is not automatic.

Category I: LD Writing Generally, transfer students complete this via their admissions writing/English requirement of 2 writing courses. There are, however, a few schools whose courses do not satisfy the entire lower-division writing requirement. In those cases, you must complete the courses at UCIrvine.

Category I: UD Writing • Upper division writing 1) must be completed with a grade of “C” or better and 2) must be taken at UCI. – CS, SE Majors - Required to take ICS 139 W. – In 4 matx (OIT) Majors – Requirement will be completed through Informatics 162 W for those pursuing the OIT specialization. – CSE Majors – Requirement will be completed through CSE 181 CW. – BIM, CGS, In 4 matx (HCI) Majors – May take any upper division course with a “W” suffix (ex: ICS 139 W, Social Science 185 W, Engineering 190 W, etc).

Category II: Science and Technology (Major Specific!) • CS Majors (per 2011 -12 catalog): Select a three-course combination from one of the following: – Chemistry 1 ABC and 1 LC-LD or H 2 ABC and H 2 LA-B-C – Physics 3 ABC & 3 LB-LC – Physics 2, 7 C, and 7 D or 7 E with corresponding labs. For the 2013 -14 catalog, you will need the following: Two courses approved For the 2013 -14 catalog, you will need the following: for General Education category II except those offered by CSE, Economics, ICS, or Mathematics. University Studies courses can be used with the approval of the CS Vice-Chair for Undergraduate Studies. • CSE Majors: Complete 18 units of basic science courses including Physics 7 C, 7 LC; Physics 7 D/LD, and the remainder from the approved Science Elective list. • BIM Majors: Per the 2013 -14 catalog, the 3 required courses will already be completed through ICS 21, 22, 6 N. If you are following the 2011 -12 catalog, then you will need one more course from this category. • IN 4 MATX Majors: Per the 2011 -12 catalog, 2 of the 3 required courses will already be completed through ICS 21/In 4 matx 41 and ICS 22/In 4 matx 42. The third course can be anything that falls under this category. ICS 93: Strategies for Success in Information and Computer Sciences • Course taught through the Learning and Academic Resource Center (LARC) – offered winter and spring quarters. • Goal is to develop good study skills in technical fields • Topics include time management, analytical thinking, text analysis, academic survival strategies, and goal setting

What else do I need to know about enrollment? • If you are receiving any financial aid, you must be enrolled in at least 6 units before it will be given. • The first day of instruction is always the first day of lecture, except for Humanities Core • You may not repeat a course for which you have received credit via AP exam, articulation review, or have received a Pass or grade of C or better.

Common Web. Reg Error Messages • I sign up for my course and after I log out of Web. Reg, my course(s) gets dropped. Why? – You may not have signed up for accompanying lab and/or disc • I am not able to add a course – You have reached the 18 unit maximum limit (waitlisted units are also applied to this) – Course conflicts are not allowed • I get the error message- prerequisite not met. – You have not met the prerequisite of the course (check your catalogue or student handbook for course prerequisites) – You have completed the prerequisite by AP exam, non-UCI course, petition, or exception to policy. • Web. Reg cannot recognize any of these course credits • You must get an academic counselor of the department that offers the course to clear you • For Bren School courses, you must either stop by the Student Affairs office or call 949 -824 -5156 to get yourself placed on the prerequisite clearing list DO NOT WAIT THE DAY BEFORE YOUR WINDOW OPENS TO DO THIS!

Prerequisite Clearing and You • The Registrar’s system will not automatically recognize when prerequisites have been completed outside of the University. This means that you will need to receive clearance for many courses before being able to enroll. • Our office has developed on on-line prerequisite clearing form that can be accessed 24/7. • Before your enrollment window opens, look up the prereqs for the courses you wish to enroll in. If you finished any of the prereqs outside of UCI, turn in a request for the courses. https: //ugradforms. ics. uci. edu. • DO NOT put in requests for courses you do not need clearance for. It creates extra work for us and slows us down.

Bren School of ICS Academic Honesty Policy • The following examples are considered as academically dishonest: – Copying during an exam or quiz – Copying a person’s homework – Sharing code during a lab assignment – Sharing notes and problem solutions – Any joint effort when individual effort is required. – Do not assume anything, ask questions.

Bren School of ICS Academic Honesty Policy • What could happen if you are caught or suspected of academic dishonesty? – An automatic F in the assignment, quiz or exam, OR – An automatic F in the course, OR – Expulsion from the University (this may occur if you have been caught more than once. ) – A letter/report will be placed in your student file within the school and at the university level for at least two years.

University privacy policy • By law, the ICS Student Affairs Office and other UCI officials may not release any student information such as GPA, grades, fees paid, attendance, transcript, or any other academic information to ANY ONE without consent from the student. • Please see the UCI General Catalogue Appendix for more details.

Official Transcripts • All transcripts (high school, community college, university) must be submitted to the Office of Admissions by: July 15 * *your admission will be rescinded if you pass this deadline – Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools 260 Aldrich Hall Irvine, CA 92697 -1075 – Admissions will place a hold on enrollment if transcripts are late

Statement of Legal Residence • Used to make a determination of residence classification for tuition fee purposes. • All students should have submitted the Statement of Legal Residence form with the SIR • The link to the Statement of Legal Residence form is located on your online My. Admissions page

Undergraduate Student Health Insurance • ALL undergraduate students are required to carry adequate health insurance • Included in Undergraduate Student Fees. • Can be waived if private insurance is evaluated to be equal or superior to policy provided by UCI • Consult the UCI General Catalogue or the web at www. shs. uci. edu for further clarification • Deadline to submit online waiver form: September 17

Undergraduate Student Fee Payment • Zotbill – When your Zotbill is available for viewing, you will be sent an email. It is your responsibility to periodically check your Zotbill to see if there any charges. • Fees must be paid by 4 PM on September 17 to avoid being dropped from courses. • Late service charges are assessed for fee payment after this date. Please refer to the Schedule of Classes or the UCI Registrar’s web site at www. reg. uci. edu for more information.

Bren School of ICS E-mail Account • In addition to your UCI account, you will need to activate your Bren School of ICS account – To activate your Bren School of ICS e-mail account, bring your UCI student ID card to the Bren School of ICS lab- ICS 364 beginning Thursday, September 27. – You will need a Bren School of ICS account in order to use the Bren School of ICS computing facilities and course drop boxes. – The ICSnet. Add/Drop/Change Policy • Deadline to add a course: Friday of Week 3 • Deadline to drop a course: Friday of Week 2 • Deadline to change grade option/units: Friday of Week 2 Exceptions can be made, given that there are extenuating circumstances that can be documented. Approvals are required by instructors and the Dean of the School that is offering the course and the Dean of the School that houses your major. Please see our homepage for further details.
