DOMESTIC ABUSE PATHWAY Any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are or have been intimate partners or family members regardless of gender or sexuality, including, but not limited to: psychological, physical, sexual, financial, emotional, honour based violence, female genital mutilation (FGM), forced marriage. Ask the question: document the question asked and the response No disclosure / indicator of domestic abuse Yes disclosure / indicator of domestic abuse Explain the limits to confidentiality of the disclosure and what actions you may have to take Think Family: are there safeguarding adult and/or children concerns? No adult/ children concerns Periodically ask ‘the question’ Yes adult concerns Does safeguarding duty (S 42) apply ? B. Always talk to the individual alone • • • Never pressure a person to leave the partner Discuss options and ensure a safety plan is in place. Explain the role of expert agencies Always use a professional interpreter never family members/friend if English not first language Always ensure complex domestic abuse cases are brought to supervision for discussion Document all contacts, when asking ‘the question’, disclosures, actions, observations etc.
