Facts Within the first hunt of the season at least 100 bottlenose dolphins’ lives are taken Over the next 6 months 2, 300 dolphins are captured The meat from just one dolphin = 50, 000 yen Taiji is an isolated town of only 3, 500 people…. So they can tend to get away from trouble
5 W’s When- annually Where- Taiji, Japan Who- the Japanese are committing this crime What- defenseless dolphins are being slaughtered Why- to make money off of their meat
1) The slaughter … pods of dolphins are gathered 2) hunters begin banging metal poles underneath the water to confuse the precious mammals (due to their hypersensitive sonar) 3) The dolphins are lured into an enclosed cove 4) Nets capture and hold them until… 5) Hunters jab knives and spears into the water When the sea water turns red they know the job is done
Environmental concerns For the mammals: The dolphins are being murdered in their own habitat( young and old). For the Humans: The provisional limit of mercury is 0. 4 ppm>> dolphin meat contains about 5500 times more mercury than allowed by Japanese law.
Defensive claim Taiji officials say that half of the dolphins they catch are sold to aquariums and some are set free. - This claim can be proven false due to the fact that photographs were taken showing young bottlenose dolphins floating belly up just beyond the slaughter zone.
Can we fix it ? Sure more protest can be made, but I hate to say that this probably won’t change hunter mentality Nations can bribe these hunters to stop but then again why should someone have to pay another human being to save a mammals life? . . The only possible way to stop this completely would be a law with severe consequences to perpetrators
Personal thoughts I for one am glad the documentary was made and put out to not only our country but Australia as well! Sadly with all these people knowing the hunters still continue because they are greedy and heartless In the end I personally believe that God will give those hunters what they deserve …
