Quality Certifications • Quality Management System (QMS) – A formalized system that documents processes, procedures and responsibilities to achieve quality policies and objectives that adheres to the AS 9100 or ISO 9001 requirements – Encompasses all parts of a program life cycle including receipt of drawings, safety requirements, configuration management, schedule development, equipment calibration, special processing, source inspection, overall documentation, etc. • Why is a QMS so important? – Improvement of customer satisfaction – Better process integration / control – Improve your evidence for decision making – Create a continual improvement culture – Engagement of employees – Space hardware requirements are different 6
Quality Certifications • AS 9100 / ISO 9001 – Highest level of Quality System for Flight Hardware – Requires investment in time and money to invest in a very robust defined systems of policies, processes and procedures • Audit time and cost is based on the companies current system maturity. (Can be up to a year and cost several thousand dollars for an immature system) – Business decision. Research will be needed to determine what is best for your company.
