FINANCIAL SUPPORT Year Scholarship 1 st 10, 500 2 nd 10, 500 3 rd 10, 500 4 th 10, 500 After passing the State Doctoral Examination (SDE), the scholarship is automatically augmented by 2, 000 CZK.

STATE DOCTORAL EXAM 1. PUBLICATIONS • 1 article in a TOP 50 Journal (based on article influence) OR • 1 article in a journal with impact factor or in a journal listed in Scopus • 1 article as IES working paper 2. 3. 4. 5. GRANT ACTIVITIES (2) RESEARCH SEMINARS (4 semesters) TEACHING (4 TAs in 2 different classes) Defenses participation (minimum 25% during whole studies) WHEN: Until the end of the 4 th year (need to enroll for the SDE till the end of the 6 th semester)
DISSERTATION DEFENSE • Proceeding: 1. Pre-defense (It is required to have one dissertation paper complete, one almost complete and one or more in progress. ) 2. Defense (Dissertation thesis is finalized) • Submission for pre-defense until the end of the 8 th year • Submission 10 weeks before pre-defense • Requirements for thesis submission for pre-defense: Ø 1 article in a TOP 50 Journal OR 2 articles in a journal with impact factor or in a journal listed in Scopus Ø Grant activites (expected to continue after the SDE) Ø Research seminars (expected to continue after the SDE) Ø Teaching (8 TAs) Ø Defense participation (50%)

1. INDIVIDUAL STUDY PLAN (ISP) • All first-year students, till the end of October • Planned exams, seminars, teaching, a schedule for the production of the dissertation, publications, conferences, defense attendance, and others • A sample Individual study plan at IES web pages: VZOR_ISP. pdf (in Czech) or SAMPLE_ISP. pdf (in English) (+ info in Handbook) • Closely follow the structure of the sample plan • After approval in SIS, no need to print or sign
2. ANNUAL ASSESSMENT OF FULFILLING THE ISP • All students, till the end of May • Information about the passed exams (if any), participation in teaching, doctoral seminars, publications, work on dissertation, conferences, defense attendance, advisor’s evaluation, and others • Planned exams, seminars, teaching, work on dissertation, publications, conferences, defense attendance, and others for the next academic year • After approval in SIS, no need to print or sign

TEACHING OBLIGATION • Since the length of internal Ph. D is 8 semesters, you • • are obliged to fulfil 8 teaching obligations in total (but you can teach more if you like). = to teach 1 hour and 20 minutes per week during the whole semester and do the work related to the course (preparation and correction of tests, assistance with examinations etc. ) You cannot teach the same subject throughout all the 8 semesters.
MATCHING PROCESS How it works: • Matching coordinator sends regularly updates about slots, available slots can be seen in Google Drive. • You must let him know immediately after a successful match. • Register for a „teaching assistantship“ course at the beginning of the semester in SIS. • At the end of the semester ask the teacher to give you credits for that teaching assistantship course (JED 511 in most cases).
DOCTORAL SEMINARS • Obligation to attend at least one doctoral seminar each • semester Requirements: • each semester at least one presentation of own research or a topic from • • relevant literature at least one discussantship seminar leaders may impose additional requirements • Register seminars directly through SIS • In SIS, follow the Subject and schedule registration - Enrol (my own) and filter the „JED“ in Subject code field. Choose a seminar of your interest • Have your work evaluated in SIS after the end of semester!
DOCTORAL SEMINARS You can choose one of the following doctoral seminars: AAEM - Alternative Approaches to Economic Modeling organized by Tomáš Cahlík ELBF - Economics and Law in Banking and Finance organized by Karel Janda , Evžen Kočenda NDES - Nonlinear Dynamic Economic Systems organized by Jozef Baruník QM - Quantitative Methods organized by Jozef Baruník and Roman Horváth
GRANT ACTIVITIES • Part of the overall evaluation (2 points for the SDE) – Main researcher of a successful grant – 2 points – Co-researcher of a successful grant / unsuccessful grant application – 1 point – Participation in GAČR of your supervisor – NO POINTS • Application for a grant project (Grant Agency of Charles University – GAUK; GDN; CERGE-EI foundation. . . ) • It is strongly recommended to apply at least for GAUK and fulfill part of your study obligation – Up to 80. 000 CZK scholarship in GAUK p. a. • (More information on a specialized meeting - October 17, 2018 17: 00)
PUBLICATIONS • • The most important part of student evaluation Required for dissertation & State Doctoral Examination Possible financial bonuses for quality publications Not having at least 1 IES WP after 1 year means grade B and Doctoral council can cut scholarship in half – If you prove publication, scholarship renewed next month • not having at least 1 IES WP after 2 years of study may lead to grade C by Doctoral council and termination of your study. • Include affiliation to IES FSV UK and dedicate the publication to SVV project 260 463 • Only Economics, Finance and related fields
3 STEPS FOR SUCCESSFUL PUBLICATION 1. Present your ideas at seminars, conferences, discuss with colleagues, get a constructive feedback 2. Submission to IES Working Papers There are several editors responsible for individual research fields. Follow the procedure in handbook – appendix II 3. After reviewing the comments from IES WP, your paper is ready for submission to a journal (submission tree) 1. First to an international journal 2. If rejected, send to a local journal (PEP, Finance a úvěr) • The process of successful work usually takes several years, so start working now!

METHODOLOGY SEMINAR • Content: – Our session will take a form of a seminar where we will examine seminar planning and styles, classroom management, feedback and microactivities that can be applied in any class. Be prepared to actively participate in the seminar. • October 31, 2018 in room 314 from 5 p. m. to 8 p. m. • Obligatory for 1 st year students and strongly recommended for all Ph. D students
