Duress: an affirmative defense that you committed the crime under continuous threat of harm to yourself or another 3. Entrapment: an affirmative defense that your criminal action was induced or encouraged by a law enforcement official and you were not predisposed to commit the crime 4. Insanity: an affirmative defense that at the time of the crime you lacked the mental capacity to understand your actions or appreciate the difference between right and wrong 5. Intoxication: an affirmative defense that you were under the influence involuntarily and did not know what you were doing or understand your actions 6. Necessity: an affirmative defense that you had no choice but to commit the crime to avoid a greater harm which could not have been prevented in any other way 7. Self-defense: a justification for committing a crime that you were attacked and defended yourself or had a reasonable belief you were in danger of being harmed and you responded or acted first with a reasonable or similar amount of force
