Safeguarding In Scouting we have a list of things we need to remember when we are working with Young People. For Young Leaders this is called the Orange Card. Adults have a similar list called the Yellow Card.
The Yes and No Quiz We’re going to make some statements – just decide if they are a thumbs up or down
Listening to Young People It’s rare but occasionally a Young Person may tell you they are being abused or that they have concerns about their safety or well being. We need to make sure you know what to do if this happens.
Listening to Young People • Stay calm and listen carefully to what the young person says, allow them to speak and don’t interrupt them • • • Accept what they say, don’t give your opinion • • Immediately tell an adult leader Reassure the young person they are right to tell Let the young person know that they will treat what they have said seriously, but that they have to pass the information on to an adult leader Immediately make a note of the facts as they know them, and give these to the same leader
Be a Role Model Young People will look up to you as a YL Set an example with your behaviour and language Remember to demonstrate our values in everything you do as a Young Leader
Scenarios We will issue you with a worksheet after the session that will include some scenarios that we want you to think about and answer some questions. To complete this training you will need to return it to us.
Do more. Share more. Be more. Safety We all have a responsibility to keep ourselves and others safe. We use risk assessments to help us manage hazards.
Thinking about this activity • Are there hazards? • What could go wrong? • How can we make it safer?
Safety Look for Hazards Review and Revise Record & Communicate Who may be harmed and how How are Risks controlled
Risk Assessments
Write a Risk Assessment To complete this training we will ask you to think about an activity you run in your section and create a draft Risk Assessment .
Being on the Road is Dangerous… How do we make sure its as safe as it can be? .

Policy, Organisation & Rules You may hear leaders talk about POR. It’s the document which defines the structure of Scouting in the United Kingdom and provides information about its management and training. It’s important we all follow the rules. www. scouts. org. uk/por .
