Key dates and milestones in 2020 (1) Internal Reviews Currently: Nominated case drafts are being internally reviewed. 15 th Jan 2020: Reviews due to be returned. Do. Is and IIB will receive notification when the reviews are available. External Reviews Ongoing: Support and funding is available for external reviews. Please get in touch if you like them to be arranged. Writing workshops Jan – March 2020: 7 -8 ICS writing workshops are being organised, 2 in Penryn. Open to all - please encourage authors to attend. External Writers Ongoing: Support and funding is available for external reviews. Please get in touch if you like them to be arranged.
Key dates and milestones in 2020 (2) RM 20 – REF mock 1 st April 2020: Submit polished ICS drafts and all available evidence. These will be reviewed and graded by internal panels, who will finalise their assessment in panel meetings throughout May and June. Evidence will be checked by the Exeter REF team and IIB colleagues. Contextual data should also be submitted now. • Polished ICS drafts • All available evidence • Contextual data Mock Audit Date to be confirmed: Two/three Uo. As will be put through a mock audit, where the eligibility criteria of the ICS will be checked, and the sources of evidence. More information will be provided in the New Year.
Evidencing Impact – Support and Strategies. • Evidence must be used in Section 4 of the template to demonstrate the impact. • Evidence sources in Section 5 are for auditing purposes only and will not be used to assess the quality of the impact. • Refer to Annex A, Panel Criteria and Working Methods for a very helpful list of impact indicators. • Refer to our Research Toolkit for tips and advice on evidencing impact. • This includes guidance for letters of testimony • This area is being updated in the New Year.
Evidencing Impact – Support and Strategies (2). • If it is too challenging to obtain evidence from end-users, the impact on them could be corroborated by individuals who can speak with authority on their behalf. • REF director has been clear that Evaluation Reports and the synthesis of external data (i. e interviews/surveys) can be compiled by HEIs and submitted as impact evidence. • Ensure steps are taken so internal reports avoid bias. This can include asking external partners to sign off the report, or publishing it on grey literature. • Work with IIB colleagues who can support evidence plans and provide advice on approaches.
Writing Workshops! Dates are being set between January and March. 3 hour sessions, with guidance and examples of writing ICS well and time to work on drafts. Presented by colleagues who are experienced with Impact Case studies, and facilitated by myself and IIB. Additional ‘drop-in’ sessions will run between Jan and June.
