Pennsylvania Response to Vaping Epidemic Vaping Response Team created by the Department’s Bureaus of Public Health Preparedness and Epidemiology § Prevention/Outreach Branch led by the Division of Tobacco Prevention and Control § Division shares information and resources with the Team, which is then distributed to County/Municipal Health Departments Information Distributed to Schools § Email consisting of state and national resources sent to all schools in Pennsylvania; followed-up by sending hard copy posters and flyers E-cigarette/Youth Media Campaign § Focuses on the current e-cigarette epidemic and promote the Quitline’s new youth cessation protocol, My Life, My Quit § Digital and use outlets with high metrics for parents and teens such as Facebook and Snapchat

Quitlogix. org The quitline provides guidance and support throughout the entire tobacco quit process to help tobacco users: Prepare a quit plan Set a quit date Understand tobacco triggers Manage cravings Get back on track after relapses § Services offered by the quitline include: § § Planning and educational materials Coaching by phone and additional support by email, text, or chat with experienced coaches Nicotine quit medications (such as nicotine gum, lozenge, or patch) Membership in an online community of others who are working to become tobacco free

Cessation Resources Referring to the PA Free Quitline Quit. Logix - Web Referrals The site provides educational materials, web support, tips on how to talk. C to and refer patients, and how to effectively apply an evidence-based brief tobacco intervention. e-Referral § e. Referrals allow healthcare providers to send secure, two-way communication between a provider and the Quitline through the patient's electronic health record (EHR) § This system improves accuracy of patient referrals to the Quitline and increases the likelihood of a successful referral, while integrating tobacco cessation into routine clinical care. Fax to Quit An alternative referral method for those with limited internet capabilities.

Tobacco 21 § Pennsylvania became the 19 th state to increase the sales age for all tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, from 18 to 21. § Federal T 21 legislation was passed on December 20, 2019 which supersedes state law. § The new legal age to sell tobacco to minors in Pennsylvania is 21 immediately, not July 1, 2020 when the state law was proposed to become effective. § There will be no military exemption in Pennsylvania.
Tobacco 21 The Division of Tobacco Prevention and Control is working with the Office of the Attorney General and Department of Revenue to discuss and plan for implementation of the new law in Pennsylvania: § All agencies are providing the same guidance to retailers and the public: The legal age for to purchase tobacco products 21, effective December 20 th, and all retailers should adhere to this law immediately per the FDA. § Although we are waiting on guidance from FDA regarding enforcement of the new law, the three agencies developed an informational packet that will be distributed to all retailers to educate about the new law. Once final and approved, the materials will be shared via each agency’s distribution lists and made available on the DOH website for retailers to download.
