Why is it important to understand diversity? Diversity is more than just tolerating differences.

Why is it important to understand diversity? Diversity is more than just tolerating differences. It is: • Respecting, appreciating, understanding the varying characteristics of individuals. • Everyone is unique and no single person is a representative of a certain group. • Stereotyping and other racial biases/prejudices are damaging to a business.

Consequences of not managing diversity • Discrimination • Breeds narrow mindedness • Impairs employee

Defining Inclusion is the process of valuing all individuals and leveraging their diverse talent, not in spite of their differences, but because of them. Inclusion is leveraging the diversity in the workforce to achieve full participation and performance; it empowers differences.
