Divergent by Veronica Roth In Beatrice Priors dystopian
Divergent by Veronica Roth In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue— Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself. During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves. . . or it might destroy her. http: //www. youtube. com/watch? v=tu 5 Erw-posg&safe=active

Free Four is one chapter of Divergent written from Four’s point of view. While we are comparing two different characters’ points of view, it is also important to remember that authors write from different points of view.
Point of View: Who’s Telling the Story? ? ? • First-Person Point of View is when we see the story from one characters point of view. The word “I” , “my” and “me” are used. You only know what the narrator sees, thinks or feels. ex: She told me that the party was at 8 pm and I went. • Second-Person Point of View is when we see both points of view and know what other people are experiencing. The use of "you " and he and she is used. 2 nd person isn’t used much! ex: She told you that the party was at 8 pm and she felt that you should go so you went. • Third-Person Point of View is when a non-active person is telling the story and we see all points of view. ex: She was told that the party was at 8 pm and felt she should go. A third-person narrator is an outside observer and an tell you how all the characters think or feel and what they see.
There Always Two Sides to the Story… • Have you ever heard anyone say, “There are two sides to every story? ” • What do you think this means? • It means that for every situation, there are different “points of view” depending on who you are and how you are looking at the situation. It also depends on your background, your beliefs and your experiences. • Activity: Learn about Point of View while reading about the “The 3 Little Pigs”…
The Point of View shows the perspective of the story “That rotten wolf tried to eat us!!!!” “I was framed! I just wanted to borrow a cup of sugar!”

He moves on to inject the serum into Tris and tells her that she has to stay in the stimulation long enough to calm down. He tells her to be brave. Tris enters the stimulation, and ends up in a grassy field. A crow lands on her, and she tries to hit it, but it doesn’t budge. A bunch of crows are swooping towards her, but she is unable to move. Tris starts screaming as the crows pick at her. She yells for help, and she feels like she is dying. Then she remembers that she actually isn’t dying and that it’s not real. She comes out of the stimulation, still kicking, and she yells not be touched, while Four says that it’s just him. Four hauls her out of the chair and steers her through the back door. Tris begins yelling at him, asking why the Dauntless would torture initiates like that, and he calmly tells her that overcoming cowardice is not easy. She believes that she failed. Four asks how long she believes that she spent in the hallucination. She says half an hour, he replies that she got out 3 minutes faster than the other initiates. He gently guides her back to the dorm, and she asks what his first hallucination was. He replies that is was rather a “who” and that he may never be over that fear. She needs answers. Tris goes to Tori again, and asks for an explanation. Tori says that because Tris is Divergent, she is aware that she is in a stimulation and that it is not real, and that she can manipulate or shut it down. She also said that because Tris is also Dauntless, someone like her tends to die. Tori warns her that if the Dauntless leaders discover Tris is Divergent, they will kill her. Next, she is in the glass. She knows that this stimulation is about weakness, and that she has to convince herself she is strong enough to break the glass. She begins to panic when the glass doesn’t break, but calms down and imagines that the glass is as thin as ice, and it shatters. Next, she is in a large body of water again, being pulled down. She continuously tries to pull herself up on a rock, and knows that she has to regain control. She drags herself up and runs. After, she finds herself bound tightly, surrounded by logs. She sees other initiates and Peter carrying torches toward her. Tris doesn’t struggle against the ropes, and gulps air. The fire starts to spread, and Peter says that he smells her burning flesh. Tobias congratulates her on having only seven fears. Tris becomes nervous and asks Tobias how much they told him about her fear landscape, and he says that he doesn’t know much. Tris doesn’t want to be afraid of him. Tobias and Tris go back to Tobias’ room, where he starts kissing Tris, but she is nervous and scared.
