Making Projects Your Own Most speeches have very open-ended requirements. Members SHOULD NOT be giving speeches merely reporting on the educational material in a project. Members SHOULD be applying the educational material to their life or using it as an inspiration to give a compelling speech. DISTRICT 31
Example: Understanding Your Leadership Style DO • Give an informational speech about the effects of leadership style on workplace morale and productivity • Tell a humorous story about a time when your style of leadership was not effective • Deliver an inspirational speech about an instance where adapting leadership style made an impact DO NOT • Describe the styles of leadership from the project • List your scores in the leadership styles quiz • Ruminate on why you scored the way you did in the leadership styles quiz DISTRICT 31
Don’t Be Afraid to do Projects Out of Order You can jump to any project at any point except for ‘Reflect on Your Path. ’ • Feel like getting into fun Level 3 elective before you finish Level 2? • Want to get started on your Path’s ‘learning arc’ before you complete Level 1? Go for it! Recommended: • New members should always start at the Ice Breaker • Do the Level 2 -5 ‘learning arc’ projects in order, because the projects build upon each other. Note: you will have to wait until you complete all prior Levels before you can earn awards for Level completions DISTRICT 31
Empowering Pathways • Get new members started speaking first, choosing a Path second • Connect one-on-one with new members to help them pick a Path • Understand each Path’s learning arc • Encourage members to make projects their own • Customize electives and order of Projects to make the Path work even better for the learner DISTRICT 31
