DISCRETE MATHEMATICS COURSE : B. TECH BRANCH : IT SEMESTER : 3 Course Facilitator : Dr. M. KAMESWARI ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF MATHS THIAGARAJAR COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING MADURAI -15
COURSE OBJECTIVES : q Check the validity of the verbal or symbolic arguments using rules of inference. q Prove the implications in propositional logic using truth table method, replacement process, analyzation method. q Construct verbal arguments with predicates for the given symbolic form. q Construct symbolic form for the given propostions and predicates.
COURSE OUTLINE: Discrete mathematics is the branch of mathematics devoted to the study of discrete objects. . Logic is the discipline that deals with the methods of reasoning. Logic plays a special role in computer science and hence it is called as “the Calculus of Computer Science”. Propositional logic is concerned with propositions and their interrelationships. Propositions are declarative sentences with values true or false and are concerned with the analysis of propositions. Predicate calculus deals with the predicates and it is the generalization of propositional calculus.
