Spiritual Gift Definition Spiritual gifts are divine abilities distributed by the Holy Spirit to each Christian according to the will of God for the wellbeing of the body of Christ.

What does the Parable of the Talents Teach us?

1. APOSTLESHIP ü Ability that enables a person, based on his/her spiritual authority, to be known voluntarily by the church, as a spiritual leader. § Plant churches, plan new ministries, perform leadership in the local church and serve in areas not yet reached. (John 13: 12 -17)
2. TONGUES ü Ability to speak or interpret another language. § Translate and perform jobs with different cultures. (1 Corinthians 14: 26 -28)
3. MERCY ü Ability to feel empathy for people who suffer physical, emotional and spiritual problems. § Visit the sick, community service and prison ministry. (Luke 10: 33 -37)

SPIRITUAL GIFTS x UNIVERSAL FUNCTION ü The expression “universal function” indicates tasks that are obligations of all Christians, no matter what their spiritual gifts are. Each Christian should perform them. ü A specific “spiritual gift” cannot be demanded of each Christian.
ü Not every Christian has the gift of evangelism, but all have the responsibility to witness their faith. ü Not every church has all gifts, but every church should use the gifts it has.
Spiritual Gifts x Natural Talents ü Spiritual gifts § Are given at the time of the spiritual birth. ü Natural talents § Are given at the time of the physical birth. 1. Natural talents may be transformed by the Holy Spirit into spiritual gifts. 2. Natural talents and spiritual gifts may vary in measure and type. 3. Natural talents and spiritual gifts are equally given by God.
Spiritual Gifts x Fruits of the Spirit ü Spiritual gifts are qualities of “doing”. ü The fruit of the Spirit are qualities of “being”. ü Spiritual gifts are given when we become Christians. ü The fruit of the Spirit are result of a continuous relationship with Christ. Fruits of the Spirit and Spiritual Gifts are essential to the ministry.
