Genre Conventions Genre conventions are elements that separate one genre from another and are the aspects of any writing that determines what genre it falls under. Most genres have particular elements that the audience expects when reading. -Ex) Action Novel: heroes, villains, weapons, fighting, and deaths and many more conventions to set theme and tell a story. Genre conventions change over time when authors decide to take risks and they try to add a new aspect to the genre. When these new conventions are invented, the older ones are used less often and eventually discontinued.

Health Genre Conventions One main genre used by many medical professionals would be patient records. A certain genre of medical writing should reflect some similarities: -organization of text -overall purpose of the document Because there are shared genre conventions, each specialist will be able to decipher their records and charts, even a doctor who has never seen the patient is able to understand the document. Lab reports will generally be the main focus of patient records. These reports are expected to be accurate and to present information that is not already known or to confirm what is believed to be known. All medical professionals are expected to learn the rules of their particular field and should understand medical abbreviations and any data presented in charts.

Pre Med Citation Styles MLA- The basic citation style for papers you have to write in the medical field. APA- The citation style most commonly used in science. AMA- The main citation style used in the medical field.

Public Goals affect on Writing within the Medical Field Ex. STD being changed STI; diseases cannot be cured, infections con. The public put a negative connotation on the acronym so it was changed. Diction plays a roll. How something is written or said sometimes has more value than what was actually said. Expected to write in a scientific, scholarly manner. Exresearch writing, writing to learn, case studies, official correspondence( memos, accurate phrases without advanced medical terminology) When nurses/doctors speak to patients they have to use more common terms so the general public will understand.
