Region 1 Updates Region 1 Student Conference – The event was held at the New York Institute of Technology Old Westbury campus (Long Island Section) on March 23, 24 2017. The event was attended by 200 students and was a huge success. Region 1 Director Elect Nomination Process – The Region 1 Director appointed an N&A committee chaired by the Region 1 Past Director. This N&A committee publicized a call for nominations, and after deliberations is recommending three candidates to be presented to the Region 1 Board in its August meeting. 6 3/3/2021
Region 1 Updates Financial Compliance – The following is a summary of a meeting with Deb Cooper -MGA Treasurer & Larry Bolsch/MGA Staff-Senior Director. – 1. R 1 seems to be only one of two regions to have completed audit at the time of the meeting – 2. Only 7 sections in IEEE did not qualify for rebate in 2018. This number is down from previous years, (None from R 1 were in the list) 7 3/3/2021
Region 1 Updates Web Based Officer/Functional/Leadership Training – Region 1 volunteer leadership launched a series of half day Web. Ex based trainings to fill the void that has been noticeable in the region for several years. – The first successful event was held on Saturday Feb. 10. This session included Section Chair, Treasure, and Secretary training, as well as other important vitality topics. – The second session was held on March 3. 8 3/3/2021

IMPORTANT LINKS (continued) IEEE Center for Leadership Excellence (CLE) The Center for Leadership Excellence (CLE) offers a simpler learning experience as a training resource for diverse IEEE user communities (e. g. Volt, conferences, volunteer officers). With their IEEE account, volunteers can access simple, easy-to-use Action Plans to help them perform in their role; Action Plans include a job description, list of tasks that need to be completed during the first 30 days and throughout the year and important key administrative items. Go to the Volunteer icon from the page and click on Action Plans icon to begin. CLE also offers content that supports other key roles such as Conference Chair, Technical Program Chair, Conference Treasurer, Publication Chair and more. GENERAL DATA PROTECTION REGULATION Takes effect on 25 May 2018 Protects individual privacy and gives people more control over their personal information Cross-Organizational Task Force is in place and is working to ensure consistency in how this new regulation will impact your day-to-day IEEE volunteer activities New data collection and handling processes will be introduced to ensure the way we all communicate is compliant and efficient. PAYPAL PAYMENT Pay. Pal Payment New Payment method introduced in December 2016 to collect payments in IBP and other IEEE applications. – In 2017 there were 25. 5 thousand Pay. Pal payments from 146 countries. – Top ten countries by number of Pay. Pal payments are USA, India, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Canada, Italy, China, Brazil, and Mexico. 30 3/3/2021

ONLINE PETITION FORM IEEE MGA has an online petition forming new Chapters, Affinity Groups, Student Branches, Student Branch Chapters, and Student Branch Affinity Groups http: //www. ieee. org/societies_communities/geo_activities/forms_p etitions/index. html The above link also provides more information about IEEE geographic unit formation policies and petitions, including links to the petition forms forming Councils, Sections, and Subsections. In accordance with the actions of the IEEE MGA Board, there are specific guidelines to follow when forming an IEEE geographic unit. EXPENSE REIMBURSEMENTS IEEE US Volunteers Expense Reimbursements If you have or will be incurring expenses on behalf of IEEE and live in the United States, the following change will take place: – IEEE is transitioning from wire payments and checks to direct wire transfers to your bank, also known as Automated Clearing House (ACH). An email will be sent in the coming weeks and it will provide instructions on how to register. 33 3/3/2021
EXPENSE REPORTS IEEE Staff and Volunteer Expense Reports A 60 day threshold has been established to submit an expense report. All reimbursable expenses must be fully approved and submitted to Accounts Payable within 60 days after the expenses were incurred. Expense reports that violate the 60 day timeline may not be reimbursed. 34 3/3/2021
