Remember – Not every sentence has a direct object. Remove prepositional phrases I flew to New Orleans on a large airplane. No direct object If a verb does not have a direct object it is called an intransitive verb.
Here are the steps to find a DO • 1) Remove all prepositional phrases • 2) Find the verb • 3) Determine if it is ACTION or LINKING • 4) Ask “what? ” or “whom? ” after the verb
