The Facts on DREF ØEstablished almost fifty years ago (1967) by a visionary act of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (DST) ØReceived non-profit status (501 c 3) in 1984 ØMission is to promote research that is pivotal in resolving critical issues affecting African American women and their families, both nationally & globally; and to provide funds for charitable and educational activities of the Sorority and community entities ØGoverned by 24 board directors, comprised of members of DST and nonmembers 2
More about DREF Ø DREF administers 200+ DST chapter funds that are managed consistent with donor intent to the extent allowable by law & IRS rules Ø DREF benefits from direct contributions from Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. , the Combined Federal Campaign, state and local government campaigns, employer matching donations, recurring online pledges, foundation grants, corporate donations, and special campaigns like #Giving. Tuesday. Ø Funds are disseminated as grants for scholarships, DST or community charitable/educational programs, and disaster relief efforts like Katrina, Haiti, and most recently the Flint water crisis, rainfall flooding in Baton Rouge and effects from Hurricane Matthew. 3
The DREF Diplomat is…. . ………. . an individual committed to the mission and ideals of the Delta Research & Educational Foundation, and who represents DREF nationally and globally through fund development with a commitment of no less than $1000 annually. 4
Diplomat Fundraising ØDiplomats have pledged to contribute or solicit contributions totaling $1000 for this fiscal year. Each donation is tax-deductible. ØThe DREF fiscal year is July 1 to June 30. Donations for the 2016/2017 fiscal year are due no later than June 15, 2017. ØDiplomats who are also members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. , (DST) may not solicit funds for DREF at DST events without advance approval of the presiding DST event official. 5
Diplomat Appreciation ØDiplomats who meet the $1000 target will be recognized § on the DREF website www. deltafoundation. net and § in the Foundation’s annual report. 6
Submitting Donations ØDiplomats may submit donations in the following ways: 1. Through the recruiting board member 2. Directly to DREF v. VIA CHECK SUBMISSION v. VIA THE DREF WEBSITE www. deltafoundation. net v VIA MOBILE CAUSE 7
