Background ● Digital Micro. Fluidics (DMF) ● Lab-On-A-Chip Devices will reduce healthcare costs and lab time ● Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) test can be used to identify diseases such as HIV, malaria, tuberculosis
Previous Project Previous Lab Setup (Provided by Dr. Schertzer)
Problem Statement Current state - The current control system is not self contained, and uses a class AB amplifier which makes the system large and nonmodular. Desired state - A fully enclosed control system that efficiently controls the DMF chip while providing accurate feedback. Project Goals - Make key improvements to functionality of control system, and complete all assigned deliverables. ● ● Repeatable, consistent droplet motion. Durable, lightweight, modular design. Constraints - Use provided DMF chip, Control fluid droplets using electrowetting, use DI water as test fluid, compatibility with peripheral hardware and GUI.
Deliverables ● Intuitive Graphical User Interface ● Arduino software that controls and analyzes droplets, and interacts with GUI. ● Mechanical housing enclosure. ● Control system calibration program.
