DISC Program Themes • Digitization: Create digital representations of physical collection materials from UNM

DISC Program Themes • Digitization: Create digital representations of physical collection materials from UNM and New Mexico cultural heritage and research institutions. Provide support for digitally-born resources. Provide digital curation, asset management and preservation services to ensure the long term availability of digital collection resources. • Access: Develop digital library resources that provide easy and comprehensive access to digital collections through the web. Ensure online systems are designed responsively to end-user needs. Provide extensive descriptive and subject information about digital resources. Provide interpretive frameworks for digital assets at both the item and collection level. • Outreach & Education: Deliver educational programs and materials that augment online access and learning Provide instructional resources and coursework that trains students and practitioners in the arts and sciences of digital information management. • Electronic Publishing: Provide resources for UNM and other New Mexico institutions to host scholarly publications online, including theses, dissertations, individual works and journals. • New Technology / Special projects: Perform applied research into new platforms and methods of electronic access to special collection resources, including advanced web and database design, augmented reality, social media and mobile access technology.

DISC Guiding Principles For each program theme, DISC strives to incorporate these foundational principles of digital library development: • Integration: Develop online resources that deliver centralized and comprehensive access to UNM and New Mexico cultural heritage and scholarly resources. • Interpretation: Provide in-depth descriptive and subject coverage of digital collection resources, which enhances the educational and research value of the online experience for students and faculty. • Innovation: Investigate, evaluate and implement new technologies that enhance access through improved user interfaces, web, database and metadata design and access technologies.
