How our footprint affects us.
Cons: Something we post can stick with us forever, it will haunt you later. Like if we walk on the beach, we make footprints that look cool, but the annoying sand sticks to us. Could affect how we’re viewed by others, or future employers, or we could’ve been made fun of for it. If we always post about partying or something like that, we might not be taken seriously, and employers don’t want to employ someone who parties all the time and doesn’t work.
Pros: If we post respectable things it could lead to employers giving us a job later in life, or that no one will ever be able to use something against us. − That doesn’t mean we have to be super formal in what we post, we can still post fun things, but you should think about how it could affect you in the future, or even if you could be seen differently by your friends for it. Social media is a good way to stay connected to friends and family around the world. − We could stay in contact with our cousins that live in Europe, instead of mailing letters we can update them on what’s going on in our life right prom our phones.
Strategies for having a good footprint Think about what you want to post ask yourself: Could this affect me in the future? Does this put me in a bad light? Will I regret this later? Can someone use this against me later? Will people make fun of me for this? Ask a friend or a parent if they think it could lead to unfortunate events in the future. Or if they have any other opinions on it. Put yourself in a scenario of what could happen if you post a photo that shines a light on questionable things. Or think about the worst scenarios that could happen.
Summary I learned how to create a good digital footprint that can help you in the future by being a good thing that there’s nothing bad about you when an employer googles you, or if someone is trying to dig up dirt on you. To other students I would say that it’s important to take the extra time to review what you want to post. It could help you in the future, and not everyone needs to know what you’re doing all the time. It’s better to keep your good memories yours, than to be punished later on for a dumb choice you made when you were in high school. And things you do that you didn’t really think through can come back and haunt you.
