Its important for one to note that although there’s 9 elements for digital citizenship, it has also been grouped into 3 groups (known as Digiteen ) according to its usage.

Group 1 : Learning/working This is known as the full participation of electronics within

Group 1 : Learning/working This is known as the full participation of electronics within the society. NB! In terms of education, technology should be equally available for all schools irrespective of their economic status. • Digital Literacy : This is known as the use of information technologies and the internet to find, evaluate, utilize, share and create content. • Digital Communication: This is known as the electronic exchange of information. NB! Digital Communication is a form of communication that provides a positive way for students to not just communicate with their teachers well, but with their fellow students. The first group is mostly used in schools, workplaces and at home.

Group 2 : Behaviour & Environment • Digital Etiquette : This is known as

Group 2 : Behaviour & Environment • Digital Etiquette : This is known as a set of rules that need to be followed by internet users for a safe and responsible time online. • Digital Rights and Responsibilities : Every one has the right to use any form of digital technologies, but their responsibility is to use it in a correct manner. • Digital Security : This is being able to protect yourself online. This group is associated with the behaviour environment.

Group 3 : External issues and concerns • Digital Law : This is the

Group 3 : External issues and concerns • Digital Law : This is the electronic responsibility for deeds and actions. • Digital Commerce : This is the electronic buying and selling of goods. • Digital Health and Wellness : This is the branch of Digital Citizenship that focuses on using technology safely and appropriately. NB! Digital Health and Wellness ensures that teachers teach students about the safe use of the internet in the following problematic areas e. g. internet addiction, ergonomics and online safety. This group associates with external issues and concerns.

The Five Fluencies Of Digital Citizenship • Solution Fluency : This is the ability to think creatively in solving problems in real • • time by defining the problem clearly, designing the correct solution, delivering the solution and evaluating the process and then the outcome. Creativity Fluency : This is the process of using artistic skill to add meaning through design, storytelling and art. Collaboration Fluency : This is the team working skill that has reached the unconscious ability to work co-operatively with virtual and real partners in an online environment to solve problems and create products. Media Fluency : This consists of two components with the first one being, the ability to look at any communication analytically to interpret the actual message and evaluating the efficiency of the chosen medium. The second component is to create original communication by bringing into line the message and the audience through the most suitable and effective medium. Information Fluency : This the ability to unconsciously and automatically interpret information in any form and formats in order to extract the essential knowledge, validate it and distinguish its meaning and significance.

Definition of Social Capital and the link between Divide and Social Capital with the ramifications • Social Capital refers to all the collective value of all “social networks” and the inclinations that arise from these networks to work hand-in-hand. The link between Divide and Social Capital is through the use of social networks, reason being one needs to note that by engaging in social networks we’re actually increasing our social and communication skills. Furthermore we are developing our universal Digital Literacy, whilst increasing our psychological wellbeing, as we feel connected and respected through engaging with others.
