Digging Operation Dr. Suhad Dawood Salman Asst. Lect. Hadeel Abed Al Hadee Asst. Lect. Nazik Abd Alwahed Geber Mechanical Engineering Department Faculty of Engineering, Mustansiriyah University, Baghdad, Iraq 23 -27 December 2018
Introduction Digging Operation It represents a huge potential and a favourable approach for many earthmoving operations including construction, mining, agricultural, forestry, military applications and especially for cleaning up hazardous areas.
Types of digging apparatus There are different types of soil digging tools and machines to remove material from a solid surface, usually soil or sand on the surface of the earth.
• Tracked Excavator
• Wheeled Excavator • Back Hoe Excavator
• Bulldozer • Dragline Excavators
• Trenchers o Chain trenchers o Wheeled trenchers
• Skid-Steer Loaders
Excavators are used in many roles as follows: • Digging of trenches, holes, foundations etc. • Demolition • General grading/landscaping • Heavy lift, e. g. lifting and placing of pipes • River dredging etc.
The main components of the hydraulic excavator are as follows: • • Boom Arm Bucket Crawler Different parts of Hydraulic Excavator.
There are many different operating attachments available. With the options in types, attachments, and sizes of machines, there are differences in appropriate applications and therefore variations in economic advantages. In the selection of a hoe, the following factors must be considered: • Maximum excavation depth required. • Maximum working radius required for digging and dumping. • Maximum dumping height required.
