Digestive system

Components and their functions of the digestive system bolus – made for swallow Esophagus- the first of a succession of hollow organs that transport their contents through muscular contractions known as peristalsis Stomach- a large, muscular chamber that mixes food up with digestive juices including the enzymes pepsin Chyme-is sealed in the stomach by two ringlike sphincter muscles for several hours and then released in short bursts into the Small intestine - the small intestine is a 22 -foot long muscular tube that breaks down food using enzymes released by the pancreas and bile from the liver

Components and their functions Pancreas -the first segment of the small intestine. These enzymes break down protein, fats, and carbohydrates. Liver -but its main function within the digestive system is to process the nutrients absorbed from the small intestine. Gallbladder- stores and concentrates bile, and then releases it into the duodenum to help absorb and digest fats. Large intestine -is a highly specialized organ that is responsible for processing waste so that emptying the bowels is easy and convenient. Rectum - is an 8 -inch chamber that connects the colon to the anus

More components and functions Anus -It is a 2 -inch long canal consisting of the pelvic floor muscles and the two anal sphincters

Pathway food takes through the body

The whole path food takes through our body 1 St the food enters your mouth where it would be chewed and will be mixed with saliva (spit). 2 nd The food gets pushed by the tongue in to your esophagus the esophagus push the food to your stomach. At this point the food reaches your stomach heres is when the stomach acids and gastric jucies break down the food and kill bacteria this can take up to 4 hr before being pushed to the small intestine after the food travels through the small intestine the food gets pushed to the large intestine where it is mixed with water then whatever left gets stored to the rectum and the craped out (pooop or dokeyed out ) the butthole (anus) Not copyed and paste

How does the digestive system maintain homeostasis? to maintaining homeostasis in the digestive system. It is estimated that the average human has around 500 species of helpful bacteria, also known as intestinal microflora, in his digestive tract, mostly concentrated in the large intestine. These bacteria aid in digestion, help produce vitamins, help formulate excrement and guard against harmful bacteria. When the bacteria population in a digestive tract is thrown off or decimated, the host will notice a change in the pace and quality of digestion. Microflora species have such a positive effect on their host there are many products available, mostly yogurts, that contain material that supports intestinal microflora's growth and health
