Didactical Contract A didactical contract is about students’ and teacher’s – most often tacit and even unconscious - expectations of each other, of a lesson, of school etc. Basic: The teacher is expected to prepare students. Didactical Contract The teacher poses questions and problems to which he/she knows one or several answers. The intention is not to get an answer but to make the student finding an answer. Whereas the student’s part of the game contains the extraordinary demand to answer questions knowing that the teacher already knows the answer. The teacher is not allowed to tell the student exactly what to do in order not to spoil the student’s opportunity to do it.

Didactical Contract It is a quite subtle construction. Hence if things go wrong it can often be attributed to one part not living up to the contract. Examples: On a ship are 34 goats and 10 sheep – how old is the captain? Separation of every day experience and subject knowledge grows up through the system The teacher presents a method and uncritically will the student apply this in any situation.

Didactical Contract Meta cognitive shift – from officiel subject knowledge to representations of it (Jourdain) Misuse of analogies – In stead of giving the answer the teacher gives the answer to an analogous problem which can be copied. (Topaze)
