1819 -1901 Queen Victoria in 1897 is the only other monarch in the history of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and a few other Commonwealth realms to have celebrated a Diamond Jubilee. She was the monarch of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from 20 June 1837 until her death.
ELIZABETH II – Queen of the UK
• Elizabeth II was born in London on 21 April, 1926. • Name at birth: Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor. • She was educated at home with Princess Margaret, her younger sister. She studied constitutional history, law, art, music, learned to ride. • When she was 25 her father George VI died of cancer. • The coronation of the Queen took place in June 2, 1953 in Westminster Abbey.
Trooping the Colour • The Queen has two birthdays. Her actual birthday is celebrated on April 21 st. The official birthday is observed on the second Saturday in June. This day is famous for a ceremony called Trooping the Colour, a beautiful parade of the Queen’s soldiers.
Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip • The Queen’s Husband is Prince Philip of Greece. His full name is His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. They got married in 1947 in Westminster Abbey. • They have four children: Prince Charles, Princess Anna, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward.

• Queen is fond of animals. Especially she likes dogs and horses. Her favorite dogs are corgis.
Buckingham Palace and the Queen Victoria Memorial
• This is where Queen Elizabeth II lives much of her time. When the Queen is in London, you can see the Union Jack above the palace. • The palace was built in 1702 by the first Duke of Buckingham. • Buckingham Palace is enormous. There are 600 rooms, 78 bathrooms, a cinema, a swimming pool and even a post office. There is also a beautiful park with a lake around the palace. • About 450 people work at the palace. Two people look after the 300 clocks.
Windsor Castle – one of the official residences of the British monarch
Windsor Castle is a thousand-year-old fortress transformed into a royal palace. The Queen spends many weekends of the year at Windsor Castle.
