Origin: • Methamphetamine was first synthesized from ephedrine in Japan in 1893 by chemist Nagayoshi Nagai. [7] In 1919, crystallized methamphetamine was synthesized by Akira Ogata via reduction of ephedrine using red phosphorus and iodine. • The first users of meth dates back to the second world war, it was widely used across rank and division. After the war it was made available in Japan because of all that the military had stockpiled. But banned it in 1951. • In the 1960 s people began to make it for recreational use in the usa. • In 1983 the federal government passes laws prohibiting possession of meth and equipment to make it.
Chemical structure
The effects on the brain • It binds to a receptor on the nerve before the synapse and causes it to release dopamine In the nerve before the synapse, dopamine is kept in little balloon-like structures called vesicles. Amphetamines cause these balloons to break, releasing their dopamine inside the neuron. Meth is very addictive and can lead to many long term problems. Researchers have reported that as much as 50 percent of the dopamine-producing cells in the brain can be damaged after prolonged exposure to relatively low levels of methamphetamine erotonin-containing nerve cells may be damaged even more extensively.
Effects on the body • Increased respiration, rapid heart rate, irregular heartbeat, increased blood pressure, the body overheats, Unhealthy weight loss / Severe dental problems / Anxiety, confusion, insomnia, mood disturbances, and violent behavior / Psychotic features, including paranoia, visual and auditory hallucinations, and delusions like the sensation of insects "Meth Bugs" creeping under the skin)
Emotional effects • Amphetamine users experience increased energy, social confidence, rapid talking, and a feeling of alertness. a lack of sleep the night after use. Over time, and especially in the amounts required by addicts, emotional effects can include severe insomnia, confusion, panic, episodes of aggression, and a condition resembling schizophrenia.
conclusion • Taking meth can be a very bad decision. Being an addict is very expensive and can cause you to lose everything. DON’T DO DRUGS!!!!!
